Principal's Corner
Ms. Thelma Hickman
Ever since she was a child, Ms. Hickman spent countless hours playing “teacher” in her mom’s pretend classroom, where she discovered her passion for teaching. Today, she brings that same enthusiasm and dedication to her role as the Principal of Havana Magnet School in Havana, Florida.
A native of Bainbridge, Georgia, Ms. Hickman was educated in Decatur County Schools and is a proud graduate of Bainbridge High School. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Mental Retardation from Georgia Southern University. In 2010, she furthered her education by obtaining a Master of Science Degree in Emotional Disturbances & Learning Disabilities from Florida State University. Her commitment to educational leadership led her to earn a second Master of Science Degree in Educational Leadership & Administration from the University of West Florida in 2014.
Before joining the team in Gadsden County, Ms. Hickman taught all subjects for grades 9-12 at Bainbridge High School in Georgia. Her leadership skills were recognized early, and she was promoted to Instructional Coach in 2013 and Assistant Principal in 2015. Although she is not a full-time classroom instructor, Ms. Hickman cherishes her daily interactions with students. Their enthusiasm for learning makes her role incredibly rewarding and motivates her to foster an environment where students can grow into responsible and independent learners.
Beyond her professional life, Ms. Hickman is actively involved in various community activities and organizations, including The Golden Key National Honor Society, Phi Delta Kappa National Honor Society, Code Red Step Team, and So Unique Fashion Experience. She is also a dedicated member of Agape Covenant Fellowship Church, where she serves as the secretary.
Ms. Hickman looks forward to continuing her journey at Havana Magnet School and contributing to the success and well-being of every student.
